Healing In The Shower

More and more people now days don’t have a bathtub in their home but want to be able to enjoy relaxing, healing or being energized by essential oils. The solution? Shower Steamers.

Unwind with Shower Steamer: Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Lemon, Sweet Orange, Sandalwood (my grandson loves this one) or Citrus Bliss (my favorite), Ylang Ylang or Cypress essential oils will help you take the edge off and bring your mind back to your happy place. There are oil combinations that will help you balance your mood, decrease blood pressure, relieve sinus congestion, body aches or stress. There are combinations that will energize you and lift your spirit. These little magic bundles pack a big punch and are perfect for any time of the day! Do you want a scent that is sweet citrus with woody undertones or are you a citrus and spice kinda girl?

That’s what I love about essential oils you can customize what you need at the time.

Shower Steamers are easy to make, then all you do is place one on the shower floor or in a soap dish or off in a corner, away from the direct water flow where it is just splashed to slowly release so you can enjoy the healing scent and let it do it’s magic!

Having trouble falling asleep? Get in a nice warm shower and pop in a Sleepy Time Shower Steamer.

You will sleep like a baby.

Chamomile and Lavender essential oils will relax you at the end of the day and help you to drift off into a deep and restful sleep.

Chamomile is soothing and calming to the nervous system. It reduces anxiety and has antidepressant qualities.

Or, maybe you want to give Lavender a try it treats anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness.

Are you ready to get your DIY on?

Here are some recipes for you to try.

Recipe:

  • 1 C Baking Soda
  • 1/2 C Citric Acid
  • 1/2 C Cornstarch (or Arrowroot powder)
  • Essential Oils of choice
  • A little bit of water (do a little at a time so you don’t end up with an avalanche experiment) LOL
  • A drop at a time of food coloring or mica powder until you get your color of choice

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch. Carefully, add 1 Tablespoon at a time of water and mix well as you add each Tablespoon.

The mixture should be able to be packed into the silicone molds of choice and drop out easily. If you need more water, add it a Tablespoon at a time and remember that a little goes a long way! You want the consistency of moist sand.

Stir in the essential oils (30 drops) and food coloring. I used 8 to 15 drops depending on the color I was going for.

Pack the mixture into the molds or shape into spheres and let them dry overnight or let them sit a minute or two and drop them out to dry.

Once they are completely dry store them in a covered container, you do not want them picking up moisture so store in a cool, dry place. To refresh the fragrance, if they have been stored a while, add a drop of oil to the steamer just before using.

Here’s another recipe:

  • 1 C Baking Soda
  • 1/3 C Citric Acid
  • 1/4 C Cornstarch
  • 10 g Menthol Crystals 15 g if you are making ones for sinus relief
  • 30-60 Drops of Essential Oils
  • Witch Hazel or 91% rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
  • Molds

Instructions:

Dissolve the Menthol Crystals you can do this by placing them in a glass measuring cup and adding your Essential Oils. The oils will dissolve the crystals. If you don’t want to use Essential Oils you would use the Witch Hazel or Rubbing Alcohol to melt them.

In a Large bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid and cornstarch. Mix in the dissolved menthol and essential oils.

Add Color. Mix all the ingredients until well blended.

This may be the perfect time for you to get creative and try some of the DIY projects out.

Take a picture and send me your favorite recipe. You may be featured in an upcoming post.

Have fun with it!

It is done when you squeeze it in your hands and it sticks together. If it falls apart spray some Witch Hazel or Rubbing Alcohol, mix and spray until it is the right consistency.

Pack your molds tightly. Keep the mixture in the mold for a minute or two then remove them and let dry overnight. If the recipe is right they will easily drop out of the mold and hold together.

Once they are completely dry (make sure they are not exposed to moisture over night) put them in an air tight container.

Have fun with it, get creative. This has healing properties in so many ways from activating the right side of your brain from the creative aspect to all the balancing and clearing affects from the essential oils.
