Have you ever found yourself asking for a sign?
Maybe you’ve been praying about an important decision. Perhaps you’re wondering whether it’s time to make a change, begin something new or finally let go of something that no longer feels right. In those moments, many of us find ourselves looking for a clear answer. We ask Spirit to show us the way, hoping for something unmistakable that removes all doubt.
There’s nothing wrong with asking for guidance. In fact, I believe Spirit is always willing to guide us. The question is whether we’re looking for guidance in the way it is actually being given.
Many people expect signs to arrive in dramatic ways. They imagine doors flying open, unexpected opportunities appearing overnight or some unmistakable moment that leaves no room for uncertainty. While those experiences certainly happen from time to time, I’ve found that Spirit often speaks much more gently than we expect.
Sometimes guidance comes as a quiet feeling that simply won’t leave you alone.
Sometimes it shows up as a recurring thought.
Sometimes it’s a conversation you weren’t expecting to have.
Sometimes it’s the deep sense of peace you feel after making a difficult decision.
And sometimes it’s the discomfort that continues growing because something in your life is no longer aligned with who you’re becoming.
One of the greatest challenges we face is that we’re often so busy searching outside ourselves that we overlook what is already happening within us.
Your intuition is one of the ways Spirit communicates.
That quiet inner knowing isn’t something to fear or dismiss. It has likely been with you far longer than you realize. Think back over your life. Have there been moments when you “just knew” something? Maybe you couldn’t explain it logically, but you felt it deep inside. Perhaps you sensed that someone needed encouragement, or you chose a different route home for reasons you couldn’t explain. Maybe you met someone and immediately felt either peace or caution.
Many of us have experienced these moments.
The challenge is learning to trust them.
That doesn’t mean every thought or emotion is a message from Spirit. Our fears, worries and past experiences can sometimes cloud our judgment. This is why creating moments of stillness is so important. When life becomes noisy, it becomes much harder to recognize the quiet wisdom that’s trying to guide us.
I’ve found that clarity often comes when we stop chasing it.
It arrives during a peaceful walk.
While sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee.
During prayer.
While watching the sunrise.
Or even while doing something as simple as washing the dishes.
It’s almost as if the answers have been patiently waiting for us to become quiet enough to hear them.
If you’ve been feeling uncertain lately, I encourage you not to place pressure on yourself to figure everything out today. Rarely does Spirit reveal the entire journey at once. More often, we’re simply shown the next faithful step.
That next step may be as simple as making one phone call.
Having one honest conversation.
Forgiving someone.
Beginning a new habit.
Or finally giving yourself permission to rest.
Those small moments of obedience often lead to the biggest transformations.
This week, instead of asking only, “What sign am I waiting for?” try asking a different question.
What guidance have I already been given that I’ve been hesitant to trust?
You may discover that the answer has been gently resting in your heart all along.
As you move through the days ahead, give yourself permission to slow down and listen. Turn off the constant noise for a little while. Spend time in nature. Sit quietly without feeling the need to fill every moment. Notice what thoughts continue returning with peace rather than fear.
Sometimes the answers we seek aren’t missing.
They’re simply waiting for our attention.
This week, consider reflecting on these questions:
- Where in my life have I been asking for clarity?
- Have I already received gentle guidance that I’ve been overlooking?
- Am I making decisions from fear, or from peace?
- When was the last time I allowed myself to simply be still?
- What small step feels right today?
Spirit rarely rushes us.
It gently invites us.
The more we learn to listen, the more we begin to recognize that we are never walking this journey alone.
