June Is Beautiful But It’ll Get You If You’re Not Ready
June is one of the best months of the year. More sunshine, more time outside, school is out so you can spend time with your kids or grandkids. But it comes with some things worth paying attention to.
Ticks Are Out and They Mean Business
June is peak tick season. When you go outside you need to think about this.
You don’t need harsh chemicals to stay protected.
These work really well:
Rose geranium oil is the best one. Ticks hate it. Dab it on your wrists, ankles and behind your knees before you go out. Mix ten drops in a small spray bottle with water and spritz your clothes too.
Cedar oil works great on all bugs. Spray it on your shoes and pants cuffs before heading outside.
Lavender oil is gentle and it repels ticks well.
When you come back inside do a quick check. Behind the knees, in the hair, behind the ears, under the arms.
Find a tick? Use tweezers, grab it close to the skin, pull straight up slow and steady. Clean with rubbing alcohol. If you feel flu-ish, achy, or notice a rash in the weeks after a bite, see your doctor. Lyme disease is very treatable when caught early.
Mosquitoes Too. Here’s What Actually Helps.
The same oils work on mosquitoes. Rose geranium, lavender, cedar. Keep them handy all summer.
Peppermint oil mixed with water in a spray bottle works great and feels amazing on hot skin.
Plant basil near any sitting areas. Mosquitoes genuinely hate the smell. One pot on your patio makes a difference.
Walk your yard and dump anything holding standing water. That’s where they breed.
The Heat Sneaks Up on You in June
Your body hasn’t adjusted to the heat yet. You went from a cool spring straight into warm sunny days and your system is still catching up. This is exactly when dehydration hits you without warning.
You don’t feel thirsty until you’re already behind. By the time your mouth is dry you’ve needed water for a while.
Every morning put a pinch of sea salt and a squeeze of lemon in your first big glass of water. It sounds strange but it helps your body actually absorb the water instead of it running straight through you.
Watch for signs that you need more water:
Afternoon headache for no reason
Foggy and tired even though you slept fine
Grumpy or anxious out of nowhere
Muscle cramps
If you have a heat headache coming on? Peppermint oil on your temples, big glass of salted water, sit somewhere cool. These work fast.
Allergies Are At Their Peak
Grass pollen is at its highest point in June. A lot of people who thought allergy season was over find out quickly that June has other plans.
Local raw honey is the best natural thing you can do. One spoonful every day. It has to be local so it contains the same pollens you’re reacting to in your area. Stay consistent and it really does calm your body’s reaction over time.
Nettle tea acts as a natural antihistamine. Brew it strong, drink a cup daily. It takes the edge off without making you feel foggy and slow.
Wash your hair before bed during high pollen days. Pollen sticks to your hair all day and then you breathe it in all night off your pillow. Just that one change helps more than you’d think.
Your Energy Is Feeling It Too
June is energetically one of the most active months of the year. The Summer Solstice is coming and a lot of people feel it before they can explain it. More emotional than usual. Restless. Like something needs to shift but you can’t name what.
Get outside in the morning. Bare feet on the grass if you can. Even ten minutes settles your nervous system down in a way you will notice. Slow your evenings down too. The long days make it easy to keep pushing way past when your body actually needs to stop.
Drink your water. Get some fresh air. Put your feet on the ground.
June is a big month. Go into it ready.
