The Spiritual Hunger Behind Your Craving
And
Why 2024 Felt Like A Breaking Point
This year has been huge for binge eating and with the holidays coming this seemed like a good time to talk about it. Binge eating can have deep spiritual and energetic roots. While physical and emotional factors play significant roles, understanding the spiritual and energetic aspects can provide additional insights into this behavior.
Here’s why this year hit so hard and how it connects to binge eating and healing:
Election Stress
The election created a lot of tension. People worried about the future, and all the debates, news, and social media made it even harder to stay calm.
Big Energy Shifts
There were solar flares, planetary changes, and energetic shifts that made people feel extra sensitive. You might have felt more tired, restless, or emotional as these energies stirred up old patterns.
Lingering Global Challenges
We’re still dealing with the effects of the pandemic, economic stress, and climate issues which caused major destruction. These big challenges have added to everyone’s emotional load.
Emotional Awakening
Many people started noticing old emotions coming up—things they thought were long gone. This can feel exhausting, but its part of clearing the way for healing.
Why Binge Eating Became Common
Binge eating isn’t just about food. It can have spiritual and energetic roots, too.
Feeling Disconnected
When your mind, body, and spirit aren’t in sync, you can feel lost. Sometimes, overeating fills the emptiness for a moment, but it doesn’t solve the deeper problem.
Unprocessed Emotions
Sadness, fear, and anger can get “stuck” in your body. Eating might seem like a way to calm these feelings, but it’s really a call to release them.
Looking for Comfort
If you feel unsafe or ungrounded, you might turn to food for stability. This often ties to an imbalance in your Root Chakra, which controls feelings of safety and belonging.
Spiritual Hunger
Sometimes, binge eating is about a deeper hunger—wanting purpose or connection. Food can’t fill this need, but spiritual practices can.
Hiding Your Shadows
Everyone has parts of themselves they don’t like. Overeating can be a way to avoid those feelings or memories, but facing them with compassion can help you heal.
Too Much Energy
If you’re sensitive, you might absorb energy from others. Food can feel grounding in those moments, but learning to manage and protect your energy is key.
Low Confidence
The Solar Plexus Chakra, which affects self-esteem and willpower, can also be out of balance. When you feel powerless, it’s harder to control impulses like overeating.
Steps to Heal Spiritually and Energetically
Mindful Eating
Eat slowly and focus on every bite. Think about how the food nourishes your body and soul. Ask spirit “is eating this at this time for my highest good?” Be aware and follow the yes or no that you get.
Release Emotions
Write in a journal, try deep breathing, or explore energy healing to let go of stuck emotions.
Grounding Practices
Activities like walking barefoot on the earth, meditation, or yoga can strengthen the Root Chakra and foster a sense of safety. If you live in a cement jungle and there is no park near by consider getting a cedar or wooden box and putting organic soil in it. Set it in your garage, on your deck or laundry room. Stand in it for a few minutes each morning or off and on during the day. If you can’t do soil get a glass container, big enough to put your feet in and do salt water. (Don’t use Plastic for your container)
Feed Your Spirit
Pray, meditate, read uplifting texts, or spend time in nature to nurture your soul.
Explore Your Shadows
Look at the parts of yourself you’ve avoided with kindness. Those aspects of yourself that you want to keep hidden. This can free you from emotional eating patterns.
Balance Your Chakras
Visualize energy flowing smoothly through your Root and Solar Plexus Chakras. Use affirmations or energy work to support balance.
Root Chakra Affirmations
The root chakra governs safety, stability, and grounding. These affirmations help you feel secure and connected to your body: Deleted the one that started out MY
I am safe, grounded, and secure.
I trust my body to tell me what it needs.
I release fear and embrace stability in my life.
I nourish my body with foods that support my well-being.
I am connected to the earth, and its energy supports me.
I am enough, just as I am.
Sacral Chakra Affirmations
The sacral chakra governs emotions, creativity, and relationships with pleasure (including food). These affirmations help you develop a healthy emotional connection to eating:
I honor my emotions without letting them control me.
I am in tune with my body’s natural rhythms and signals.
I choose foods that bring balance and nourishment to my body.
I embrace pleasure in healthy, mindful ways.
I release guilt and shame around eating.
I deserve to feel joy and satisfaction without overindulging.
I trust my intuition to guide me in all areas of my life.
How to Use These Affirmations
• Daily Practice: Repeat these affirmations in the morning or before meals.
• Meditation: Use them during a grounding or chakra-balancing meditation.
• Writing: Write them in a journal to reinforce positive thinking.
• Mindful Eating: Say an affirmation before each meal to set an intention of mindfulness.
These affirmations can help you align with your deeper needs, reduce emotional eating, and reconnect with a sense of balance and self-trust.
This year was challenging, but it’s also been a chance for growth and healing. By addressing the deeper reasons behind binge eating, you can create lasting change and align with the best version of yourself.
