Balance The Brain

Lifestyle

Both sides of the brain look alike but there is a vast difference in their function. We can see that in people from a young age. A person who is “left-brained” is often said to be more logical, set in their ways, analytical, and objective. A person who is “right-brained” is said to be more creative, intuitive, thoughtful, spontaneous and subjective.

The right side or hemisphere of the brain is associated with your cognitive skills, such as creativity, emotion and intuition. It also controls the left side of the body, this is why you hear a person had a stroke on the right side of their brain but the impairment shows up on the left side of the body. Because of this right-brained people are often left-handed.

When a person develops a dominance on one side of their brain, they tend to have certain characteristics and follow those characteristics in their careers. The left side of the brain is often thought of as the logical, thinking side so these people often will be found in careers such as CPA’s, Lawyers, Doctors, Engineers or Computer Programmers. The right side of the brain is often associated with Artists, Graphic Designers, Counselors, Healers or Interior Designers.

There are issues that will arise from staying on one side of the brain. Energy needs balance and we actually have a band of energy that loops around the body. If it is the width of a garden hose it should remain that width all the way around the body to provide an even flow of energy. However, when we stay on one side of the brain I see clients, or people in general, that the left side is the width of a fire hose and the right side is the size of a drinking straw. What do you think happens when you try to shove the pressure of a fire hose through a drinking straw?

This can cause issues like headaches or migraines or something as serious as seizures, aneurysms or a stroke.

It is important to add creativity if you are dominant in the left brain.

Some things to consider would be painting, woodworking, play an instrument or sketching.

It is important to add logic if you are dominant in the right brain.

Things you may consider would be journaling; practice your writing, spelling, and word composition, read a book, crunch some numbers, learn a new skill or you could do word or number puzzles.

Just make sure to make use of your entire brain to keep balance and health in that area.

Until next time. Be well.
