Life’s Transitions and a Drawing!
In the realm where independence was once your battle cry, you may find yourself retreating, not by choice, but by circumstance. Everything is changing so rapidly that self adjustment is often hard to keep up with.
You may find a sense of déjà vu washing over you as you navigate all the twists and turns life is dealing out right now.
Due to circumstances beyond your control you may find yourself back in your childhood home as an adult or in one of your children’s homes as you age. Now this home has been transformed into a shared habitat with multiple people from your family together once again.
You’re not alone in this unprecedented odyssey; a quarter of your peers, vibrant young adults like yourself, have also returned to the nest. Or in the case of an elder moving into their child’s home you are joined by one-third of your peers that are in the same circumstances. This collective homecoming is not a step backward, but a dynamic shift, a redefinition of not only family ties but also it is a huge energetic shift for all involved.
Urgency: Often the pressing nature of your return is palpable. Economic uncertainties, skyrocketing housing costs, and a lingering pandemic have conspired to make independent living seem like a distant dream for both age groups. The urgency to find stability and shelter propels you back into the familiar embrace of your family or possibly into VanLife.
Endurance: Adapting to this new reality is akin to navigating a treacherous terrain. You’re no longer the carefree child, but an adult with responsibilities and aspirations of your own. Or your no longer the parent of young children that you can discipline, or direct but now a guest of sorts in their home.
The delicate balance between independence and reliance becomes a tightrope you must tread carefully.
Yet, amidst the challenges, you discover a renewed sense of belonging, a realization that family is not just a biological bond, but a resilient support system that adapts to life’s twists and turns.
Breadth: You’re not alone in this journey. You’re part of a generation that’s redefining the traditional trajectory of adulthood. The narrative of linear progression from education to career to homeownership is being rewritten. Instead, you’re forging your own path, carving out a space for yourself within the ever-changing societal landscape. Your story is not just your own, but a reflection of a larger cultural shift.
Your desire for stability, belonging, and independence is what drives your journey. It’s a universal yearning that resonates with countless young and elderly adults across the globe. Your story is unique, yet relatable, a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit. The energy is ever shifting as you navigate the complexities of this new chapter in your life, finding strength in the bonds of family and forging a path that’s uniquely yours.
With time, you will forge a new kind of bond, one that adapts to your changing circumstances. You laugh and cry together, you may confide in each other, and you learn to navigate the delicate balance between family and independence. It’s not always easy, but it’s a journey that’s worth taking. Because as you walk side by side, you discover that living together again isn’t about going back in time but about creating a new chapter in our shared story.
For some the call for independence is strong and you may opt for the nomadic or van life option.
Every one of you is unique and you want to do what is for your highest good. The easiest way to figure that out is to ground, zip up and get in your coconut or energy protection so you know you are truly into your own energy or your highest self. Take a few deep cleansing breaths then say out loud.
I have returned to my parents home – does your energy contract or expand, do you get a yes or a no, do you feel joy or unease. That is your yes or no.
Or
I have moved in with my adult child – what do you get?
Or
I have moved into my car, van or RV – what do you get?
You will know which of these scenarios resonates with you and is for YOUR highest good.
